MARRIAGE VISITOR VISA
The Marriage visitor visa is intended for individuals over the age of 18 who wish to travel to the United Kingdom in order to give notice of marriage/civil partnership, or to marry or form a civil partnership in the United Kingdom. To enter the UK for this purpose, visitors must possess a valid visit visa endorsed as a marriage visitor, as well as the name of the visa holder’s fiance(e) or proposed civil partner.
ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS FOR MARRIAGE VISITORS:
To be eligible for a marriage visitor visa, applicants must meet the following criteria.
- Must be at least 18 years old
- The right to give notice and enter into marriage or a civil partnership is unrestricted.
- Intend to marry or enter into a civil partnership within six months of arriving in the UK
- Maintain a sincere relationship
- Leave the UK before the visa expires
- Possess sufficient funds to cover the cost of the visit and return journey without relying on public funds
- Demonstrate your intention and plans to marry or form a civil partnership within six months of your arrival in the United Kingdom.
The marriage visitor visa is intended for couples who wish to marry or form a civil partnership in the United Kingdom but do not intend to remain or settle in the country following the ceremony. If the applicants are simply visiting the UK to convert their civil partnership to marriage, they only require a standard visitor visa. Partners of British citizens or those permanently settled in the UK who take this route will be unable to change to a spouse visa while in the UK.

QUESTIONS & ANSWERS
Q: CAN I GET MARRIED IN THE UK ON A FIANCE VISA?
A: If they meet all the requirements, they can apply for a Fiance visa to marry in the UK. They will need proof that the partner is British and settled in the UK, as well as proof of income, housing, and English language proficiency. Those without a British or settled partner usually apply for a marriage visitor visa.
Q: CAN I MARRY AND GIVE NOTICE ON A STANDARD VISITOR VISA?
A: The standard visitor visa does not allow notice or registration of marriage in the UK. Solely for marriage, applicants must apply for either a Fiance or a Marriage visitor visa. A standard visitor visa may be used to convert a civil partnership into a marriage.
Q: CAN I BRING MY FAMILY WITH ME?
A: Applicants may apply and travel as a family group; however, they must submit separate applications and pay the appropriate fees.
Q: HOW TO PROVE 6 MONTH MARRIAGE INTENTION?
A: Application and sponsor may provide evidence of wedding planning such as contacting the local council to provide notice of marriage, confirmation of wedding venue, etc.
Q: MY VISIT VISA APPLICATION WAS REFUSED.
A: The applicant should try to understand the refusal and provide more evidence to resolve the issues. If so, start over. A visit visa application cannot be appealed unless it involves or raises human rights issues that are not clearly unfounded. For decisions that are incorrect or not in accordance with the rules, the applicant may seek judicial review.
